The Smart Project is a social economy project, developed and supported by CVS Hamilton/East Kilbride, which covers the urban area of South Lanarkshire. The Project is currently in its 3rd year of lottery funding and is looking at future sustainability. Smart aims to support the development of the social economy sector and to date this has been achieved by:
- Providing direct organisational development support to new social economy organisations and voluntary organisations developing new social enterprise activity
- Providing office accommodation and resources to start up social enterprises
- Providing an enterprise focused training calendar
- Raising awareness of the sector locally through community events, presentations and road shows
- Developing and now linking to Lanarkshire Social Enterprise Network
- Promoting opportunities through the Network e-newsletter and e-bulletins
- Development of the Smart website to strengthen the Social Enterprise Network and promote access to online learning and funding opportunities - www.smartsen.org.uk. The website is currently being updated and in the interim provides a useful insight into past Smart activities and achievements
- Successfully securing funding from Lanarkshire Key Fund, Scottish Community Foundation and the Lanarkshire Social Economy Partnership to initiate and develop spin off activities including the Network Development Project, Lanarkshire Social Economy Conference and grass roots activity in the Larkhall Regeneration area
- Working closely with a range of local agencies via the Lanarkshire Social Economy Partnership and national bodies e.g. Social Investment Scotland, Social Enterprise Academy, First Port
